County Commissioner Magazine Receives
International Award

The Association of County Commissions of Alabama’s bimonthly magazine County Commissioner was honored with an Award of Excellence in the 21st Annual Awards for Publication Excellence Competition for Communications Professionals.

The annual awards program is sponsored by Writing that Works, a division of Communications Concepts, and recognizes excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the ability to achieve overall communications excellence.

Lori M. Quiller, director of public relations for ACCA, is the magazine’s managing editor, writer and designer. The magazine consists of editorials from the association’s president, Executive Director Sonny Brasfield and Staff Attorney Mary Pons, as well as several articles relating to issues pertinent to local government in Alabama.

“The recognition for our magazine is confirmation of what we already knew – the Association's publication is one of the best of its kind anywhere in the country,” Brasfield said. “We are very proud of Lori's hard work and talent. The publication reflects the changing role of county government in Alabama and is a great tool to communicate with county officials and the general public.”

There were 3,785 entries in the competition with 1,158 Awards of Excellence and 706 entries in the category of Magazines and Journals. County Commissioner magazine was the only winner of an Award of Excellence in the Magazine and Journals category from Montgomery, Ala., and one of eight winners from Alabama. Competition winners represented Asia, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, India, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Portugal, United States and the West Indies.

County Commissioner magazine has also received several awards in the 2007 and 2008 Public Relations Council of Alabama’s Annual Medallion Awards competition. Quiller is an active member of the Montgomery Chapter of PRCA and immediate past president of the organization.
