National County Government Month is April.
ACCA is Celebrating Alabama's Counties!
 MONTGOMERY – National County Government Week has officially been changed to National County Government Month, giving counties more time to raise public awareness and understanding about the roles and responsibilities of our local governments.
The activities during the month of April should be designed to help local citizens understand how their counties can respond to their needs. In many ways, the month of April is an introduction for county residents to their local government and its services.
We have designed a packet to help county leaders get involved in National County Government Month. The Association has always supported this very important activity, originally designed in 1991 by the National Association of Counties, and continues to be pleased by Alabama's local government support of this national movement. This year, we are encouraging 100 percent participation by Alabama's counties to show our pride in the programs offered to Alabama residents!
The 2010 national theme is “Healthy Counties,” and this should present several opportunities for cooperation between Alabama’s County Commissions, local Departments of Health and local Emergency Management Agencies.
However, it is entirely appropriate should your county choose to sponsor other programs outside of this national theme. This packet should provide you with ideas to help you and your county leaders highlight the outstanding programs your county sponsors for the safety and welfare of your citizens.
The packet includes several ideas for projects your county can sponsor during National County Government Month, tips for getting your local media to cover your events, a timeline to get you started, and a sample Resolution and press release for you to personalize for your county. Passing the Resolution is the first step to declare April as County Government Month in YOUR county.
